Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science

Founded in 1944

The Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS), the premier scientific body in the country was founded in 1944 and incorporated by Act of Parliament No 11 of 1966. At present, SLAAS has a membership that numbers over ten thousand, representing almost all disciplines of science.

82nd General President

Prof. Ranjith Senarathna, Senior Professor of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna, possesses over 40 years of experience in higher education, including teaching, research and administration, and community development. He has held several senior administrative positions with distinction for a period of over 20 years, i.e. the posts of Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Vice-Chancellor, University of Ruhuna, Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Directors, Chairman of the Ocean University and Vice-Chairman, University Grants Commission. Currently he serves as the Chairman of the National Science Foundation. He will be inducted as the 82nd General President of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science at a ceremony to be held on 12th January 2023 at the Areana Reach Hotel Maharagama
