Impacts of the El Niño Southern Oscillation and climate change on coral reefs in Sri Lanka; Adaptive management to improve recovery and resilience
Sri Lanka is experiencing a severe coral bleaching due to impacts of El Niño Southern Oscillation and climate change. It will have far reaching impacts on fisheries, tourism and livelihoods of coastal communities.
To present the current status of coral reefs in Sri Lanka and to explore mechanisms to improve the recovery of bleached corals and their resilience, a public seminar and a panel discussion has been organized jointly by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), Section ‘D’ and the Science Education Committee of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS).
